Toy Tactics Leaving Early Access

Toy Tactics, from developer Kraken Empire and publisher Joystick Ventures is poised to leave Steam Early Access in just a few weeks time. From September 19 you’ll be able to command minifigs to victory under the guidance of legendary generals.

The game brings a refreshing twist to real-time strategy with a creative control system. One really cute aspect of Toy Tactics is the option to draw unit configurations directly onto the battlefield as seen in the full release announcement trailer below.

Players command miniature armies inspired by the toy collections from various different historical and fictional settings. It’s a lovely, imaginative world in which to butcher legions of skeletal dinosaurs or stealthy samurai.

The control system is what really stands out. At any time, players can pause the game and draw a formation which their units will dutifully follow. Think wedges for charging the enemy or shapes designed for encirclement. Or, for the unimaginative, solid lines of battle. Show off your tactical creativity with intricate formations and adapt your strategies on the fly.

Alongside a single-player campaign mode, Toy Tactics features an online multiplayer mode so you can face off against your friends. It’s also one of the few RTS games which is Steam Deck verified allowing you to play on the move. It features physic-based gameplay with every unit’s actions simulated in real time. Destructible environments mean that walls will crumble and building collapse; this is a dynamic battlefield you’re fighting over.

The game features a selection of factions based on ancient Rome, Japanese Samurai and the Undead, each with its own strengths, weaknesses and unique unit abilities. Diverse campaigns, challenging puzzles, and a sandbox mode offers plenty of content to keep players engaged. A spell and relic system allows players to personalise their strategies.

Toy Tactics exits Early Access following months of feedback, updates and refinements. Kraken Empire have promised more content post-release. For those players looking for something a little different, Toy Tactics may be it.
