Skynet’s fall was said to be the key to the future of mankind, but from its ashes, something far worse arose. This is the backdrop for the main premise of Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance. Where due to a timeline split Legion was created, resulting in the mass extinction of mankind. You will take control of the remnants of the US Army and make a stand for the survival of mankind. But this will be no easy task as the game features complex mechanics that will force you to change your strategy on the fly. Even more so now with the introduction of the new AI and multiplayer maps in the recent update.
Expanded Multiplayer Experience with New Maps
The update introduces new multiplayer maps that diversify the combat scenarios players can encounter. These maps range from war-torn cityscapes to dense wilderness areas, each presenting unique strategic challenges and opportunities. Urban areas have also seen a change with the new structural destruction system offering new ways for players to interact with the maps. By offering fresh environments for battle, these new maps encourage players to adapt their tactics and explore new strategies.
AI Overhaul: Smarter Enemies and Greater Challenges
Maps are good and all but the developer Slitherine has also made massive changes to the AI of the game. Resulting in the complete overhaul of the enemy units in the campaign and skirmish modes. These changes include better and more dynamic responses to player actions. A more varied pool for said responses to choose from. And a change in the aggression of the enemy units at the brink of defeat. Overall these changes result in a far more challenging and enjoyable experience for the players. While also allowing them to create new strategies.
Teased DLC: What Could Be Next?
Adding to the excitement, the developers have released a new trailer that has the community buzzing with speculation about potential DLC. The trailer, in question, is only an eleven-second-long video showing an ominous red eye. This then leads into the title card of the game with the caption “We Are Legion”. At the moment the developers have made no statement commenting on the new trailer. The community, on the other hand, has taken this as a hint towards a possible DLC in the works. Which can either introduce new units, a new campaign, or even a whole new faction. Alas, we can only speculate until further information is released.
With new multiplayer content, a smarter AI, and hints at future expansions. Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance has truly breathed new life into this old IP and genre. And who knows if this keeps up we might even one day get to see a RTS game like this set in the original timeline of Skynet.
