Mass Conflict: Ignition has CnC Generals Vibes

There has been a resurgence in recent years of games inspired by the classic Command and Conquer series. We have already covered Battlefall and Dying Breed, and we have a beady eye on Tempest Rising, yet there is a new contender on the block and this time its a little different.

Mass Conflict: Ignition, a new announcement from Misclick Games, is promising to channel the greatness that is Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour, one of my absolute favourite CnC games. The more realistic ‘near future’ setting and aesthetic setting it apart from the iconic Tiberium series and retro-themed Red Alert. Mass Conflict is inspired by Zero Hour, but it will feature a completely new design, making it a brand new experience. It aims to be a successor to Zero Hour, retaining core mechanics and introducing fresh elements.

Misclick Games are gearing up to release something which is not just a tribute to the 2003 classic, but something evolutionary. They have promised a game which will deliver a classic real-time strategy experience enhanced by new and original gameplay mechanics. But can they pull it off?

Who are Misclick Games?

Emerging from Instanbul, Turkey, Misclick games Misclick Games was established by Uğur Sarı and Ahmet Erbaş, who both bring significant experience from the competitive RTS gaming scene. They are joined by Berat Oğuz and Gökçe Oğuz, founders of Fabrika Games and Playable Factory. As early investors they add credibility to Misclick Games. Misclick Games claim to have an average game development experience of 20 years!

Their development philosophy is heavily focused on community involvement and contributions. Just a few minutes spent browsing through the games Discord server will be proof of this. The developers regularly engage with server members, listen to feedback, and spit-ball ideas. Involving your customers from the outset of a project has become a bit of an industry standard for indie developers, and Misclick are incredibly keen for people to get involved.

This approach is perfect for creating a game which meets players expectations. If a player can directly influence the development of a game they’re 100% more likely to become invested in it and support its development.

Mass Conflict: Ignition

With a near-future setting based on one of the most successful real-time strategy games ever released, classic gameplay and innovative new mechanics, Mass Conflict: Ignition has got potential to be great. Despite calls for it, Generals 2 never saw the light of day, and Mass Conflict could fill that void. There are risks that it could be lost in a sea of other Command and Conquer clones, but there is something about the raw, unapologetic openness of this project which resonates with me. Its certainly one to watch.

Misclick Games’ blend of seasoned industry veterans and active community participation sets a strong foundation for what could become a standout title in the crowded real-time strategy market. Check out their Steam page, be sure to wishlist. Join the Discord server, be sure to tell them what you want to see in the game. And try out the demo, which is available here. I’d love to know what you think of it. Good luck, generals.
