Despite knowing that I've seen The Empire Strikes Back numerous times. I've often pondered: at the moment where Luke lets go of the gantry and tumbles, might he utilize gravity to direct him into the pipe or did he just glide down it? What do you think Luke's fall ESB?
 
Well, in my own opinion, I believe that Darth Vader was actually the who screwed up by telling Luke that the Emperor foresaw him defeating them. So, in essence Luke knew his jump would most likely not be to his death. I never believed that the look on Luke's face was that of fear or resignation. Although he didn't know exactly what would happen next if he jumped, he just took leap of faith at that point by putting his faith into the will of the Force.
