Is the Total War series of games real-time strategy?

It has real-time battles, but you don't battle every turn. I think of it as a turn-based game. What is your opinion?

It has turn-based AND real-time. I would say it counts as RTS as it's a huge part of the gameplay mechanics. Stop being so pedantic.

I don't think total war game series as entirely real time strategy. Well, the battles are in real-time that offer tactical control over the units, however, the core gameplay is turn-based strategy. It is little off from a normal real time strategy game.

It's not entirely RTS, no, but all the battles which are the most important aspect of a wargame are played out in real time. That means its RTS.
