Amid the excitement surrounding the Star Wars cinematic universe, Lucasfilm has officially revealed five feature films in various stages of development. While Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's New Jedi Order project and Taika Waititi's script have garnered attention, the Glover brothers are crafting a Lando film, James Mangold awaits the start of his Star Wars project and Dave Filoni's grand event looms on the horizon.

Yet, one name seems to have eluded this list—Shawn Levy. Perhaps it's because Lucasfilm hasn't made an official announcement, or maybe it's due to Levy's current commitments elsewhere. Nevertheless, Levy himself has confirmed his involvement with the Star Wars universe on multiple occasions, expressing his determination to make the film, despite Lucasfilm's track record with creatives.

Currently, Shawn Levy is in the final weeks of shooting Deadpool 3 on location in London, a project he aims to complete before its scheduled release date on July 26, 2024. This tight schedule suggests that Levy may not be available to work on the fifth season of Stranger Things until after the summer. Given Levy's past role as director for episodes 3-4, it's logical to assume he'll continue in that capacity during the next season.

Stranger Things is set to commence shooting in early January, with the Duffer brothers confirming a year-long production timeline. Assuming Levy directs episodes 3-4, this commitment will occupy him for several months beyond the completion of Deadpool 3, bringing us into the fall of that year.

The plot thickens when we consider Levy's recent agreement to direct another Netflix film starring Ryan Reynolds. However, the production timeline for this project remains uncertain, with reports indicating that it's still in the early development stages. While Netflix won the bidding war for the film, it's unlikely Levy will shift his focus to Star Wars until this project advances, potentially putting his Star Wars involvement on hold for at least two more years.

This raises questions about whether Lucasfilm has indicated to Levy that his services are not currently required. At first glance, Lucasfilm's top priority for 2024 would be launching Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's film. However, with Lando also in advanced development, and the impending debut of Donald Glover's Mr. & Mrs. Smith series on Prime Video, more information about that project may surface early in the year.

James Mangold, busy with a Bob Dylan biopic, could potentially begin work on Dawn of the Jedi after the summer if he wraps up his current project in the first six months of the year. This could open the door for the shooting of two additional films in late 2024 or 2025. Additionally, Dave Filoni's name is in the mix, though it's uncertain whether he will tackle Ahsoka season 2 first.

All factors considered, it appears that Shawn Levy and Taika Waititi may not be part of Lucasfilm's initial wave of new films, with filming possibly commencing no sooner than 2026. Fans eagerly awaiting Levy's contribution to the Star Wars universe may need to exercise patience as his busy schedule unfolds.
