View attachment 131In a recent interview on the Smartless podcast, Adam Driver put an end to persistent rumours regarding his potential return to the galaxy far, far away. Driver made it unequivocally clear that he has no intentions of revisiting the Star Wars universe.

The speculation surrounding Driver's involvement in a future Star Wars project began to swirl when it was announced in April 2023 that Daisy Ridley would reprise her role as Rey in an upcoming Star Wars movie set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. This unofficially titled Rey's new Jedi Order Star Wars movie prompted fans to speculate about which familiar characters might join Ridley in the film.

Driver's name was frequently mentioned in these speculations, but during the podcast appearance, he decisively addressed the matter, saying, "They're doing stuff, but not with me. I'm not doing any more." When asked if this meant he was done with the character of Kylo Ren, Driver confirmed it, effectively ending any hopes of his return.

This revelation comes as no surprise to those who followed the Star Wars sequel trilogy closely. Kylo Ren, also known as Ben Solo, met his fate in The Rise of Skywalker, thus concluding his character's journey in a dramatic fashion. While the Star Wars franchise has a history of bringing characters back from the dead, Driver's statement strongly suggests that Kylo Ren's story arc has come to an end.

It's worth noting that actors in franchise films sometimes provide misleading information to maintain secrecy or surprise in future projects. However, assuming such without concrete evidence would be unwise. Driver's explicit confirmation of his departure from Star Wars carries a finality that fans should respect.

In addition to addressing his future in the franchise, Driver also discussed the evolution of Kylo Ren's character throughout the sequel trilogy. He revealed that the character's original arc, as envisioned by director J.J. Abrams, was meant to be a reverse of Darth Vader's journey, starting as the most conflicted and vulnerable and culminating as the most committed to the dark side. However, the trajectory of Kylo Ren's character shifted during the trilogy's production, particularly in The Rise of Skywalker.

This highlights the creative process behind the Star Wars sequel trilogy. It is a reminder that filmmaking is often an evolving and collaborative effort, and characters can undergo significant transformations over the course of a trilogy.

Adam Driver's decision to part ways with Star Wars marks the end of an era for fans of the franchise. While some may hold out hope for a surprise return, it is essential to respect the actor's wishes and recognize that, for now, Kylo Ren's journey in the Star Wars universe has reached its conclusion.
