I have had my own fare share of the games that deliver the most intense battles. I prefer games like StarCraft or Company of Heroes 3. They are so wonderful and I enjoyed the challenging large scale battles of these games. It enhance the immersive experience. Tell me, what hat makes a great large-scale battle in an RTS game?
 
Rise of Nations does well for me as one with large scale battles. The historical background lays a foundation for epic battles as it is. And then, the battle of civilizations is also a playground for large battles. The technological variances of each civilization adds an air of complexity around the battles.
 
Most definitely StarCraft II is still the king of large-scale battles to me. I like the unit diversity and it make for some epic clashes. I also love how I was able to execute complex strategies with hundreds of units. It's so amazing.
